Would a basic steel threaded rod be suitable or am I overlooking something very basic?

As the boys said, you don't have to use stainless. I got one of the bolt shops nearby to give me a quote on the bits and pieces I needed for the threaded rods and it was less than $35.

:text-lol: It was definitely my intention to go the mix of stainless, glass and copper, hence the stainless reducers and U bend. 8-) Brass threaded rod didn't even cross my mind.

Agreed on the red seals, set it off quite nicely.

I'm contemplating a build along the same lines and I have a bunch of steel threaded rod here in my factory doing SFA so was wondering if I could use it........cheers for the reply!

I don't think the brass would look as good with the shiny FSD stainless fittings :teasing-tease:

Hey wiifm

Did you end up swapping the lantern glasses out for borosilicate ones? If not have you cracked any of the glasses? How are they holding up?

The lantern glasses are borosilcate.

I've done bout 40 + runs on 1st and about 20+ runs on second glasser with no issues. I stress tested them in the original build thread... overheating, plunge cooling etc no issues . On the drop test lost 1 glass = mybad a retainer screw hit the glass segment cos it wasn't centred correctly/moved cos it was not tight enough.

As said in the build thread sure glass won't take a dent, but with reasonable care they last.

How have I missed this thread?
Wiifm that is a great build. :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Once you get your boiler polished up you can put it in your lounge room and watch it instead of the idiot box. :D

I'll have to live with it under the house for now. Did three runs today. Here is a time lapse of the last run :happy-partydance:

Love your work wiifm. It's interesting to see a run captured that way, and those tails really pour out when you shut the RC off too.
The drink in shot was a nice addition as well.
I'm curious as to where I can get a distillery assistant like yours though? :o

Love the time lapse.
Think you may have just started a new fad.

PS get some heating in there.... your assistant looked a little cold :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :shifty:
