i was thinking of doing one on the bubble cap still i was planning to build to help with cuts and mainly to control the rain from the reflux condenser so theres a even flow over the bubble plate. but was going to ask about it first.

The perforated plate above the bubble caps is there for no other reason than I wanted to try something different, if it dont work I'll make another tray with caps.

I'm using 4" easy flanges for the peepers, I'm also going to put one on top of the reflux condenser :D

My guess is 260 holes on the top plate (not including the big one)

Mc Still,
why does the top plate not need a flange to match the down comer? Or is the answer that the top plate is sealed to the wall?

Also why I am picking you brains:
What would be the two or three main benefits of each tray type?

Cheers,
Mark

perforated plates dont need to be sealed to the column, as long as they are a reasonably tight fit the liquid pools on them no problem at all.

As far as benefits of each type of tray, everyone has different opinions on this.... but I cant tell the difference in the final product ;)

McStill,
What are your comparative observations on running either type of system? Or do you generally use the same run strategy regardless of the plate design?

G'day Larry & welcome ;)

I generally just use the same run strategy as seen in my videos mate, it works well for me and the product is consistent..... which is what I'm trying to achieve.

Cheers.

I was wondering how each system compares not so much from a "this likker is better than that likker " stand point. But more from a "run it hard and put away wet" point of view......stability during brisk collection speeds and so forth...If you follow my meaning?

BTW, that's a damn good looking assembly on that plate tree.

I always run my rig pretty hard I think, I reckon the carry over of flavors just works better if I drop the ABV back a point or two.

The run in my video is still on oak and it smells divine, I'll do a taste test in the next few days to see how it is, but the way I ran the rig in that video is pretty much exactly as I do every run.

I'll finish this build one day, hopefully before I retire but I just dont have enough hours in the day at the moment :crying-green:

And now you brought this post up just mocking me :crying-green:

Fuck it :laughing-rolling:

I'm looking for ideas on how to set these caps out for a 4" plate and what size to do the downcomers.

This would be a good one to reupload your pictures to 8-)
