Thought about extending your packed section instead ? .cheers hillzabily ;-)

How much do you recon i would have to go and would it be as good as a plate? I do already have the plate.

My opinion adding 150ml would be as good as 1plate+ .cheers hillzabilly

maybe you could do the extra packed section as two primus glasses,to match the bottom and get to see inside it as well.cheers hillzabilly

Right so I tryed the extra 300mm of packed section and to be honest it didn't seem to help much so the other night while having a drink or two I dicided to whip up another plate and stick that one and my spare from before into the 300mm section for an extra couple of plates. It's not pretty and I didn't worry about sight glasses but it did seem to do the trick.

I ran an all faints run at about 30% (for neutral, obviously) and was pulling 95% at 2.5 ltrs per hour, a great result I recon. I wouldn't say it was a great odorless vodka but I don't think i have ever truly made an odorless drink yet, there always seems to be a small alcoholy smell there but it will be just fine for the girly drinks.

Yep and my baths at 20mm now. I don't think a thumper would help that much on a neutral setup plus it would be way too high. I'm happy with this outcome and i don't drink much neutral anyway and after yesterdays run I won't need to do another for a while.

i saw you mentioned somewhere that you drilled a hole in your plates to help them slowly drain away after a run. what size dril bit would you recommend? i figure it would need to be really small?? Im making some sections that are going to be stuck in place so they will need to drain and im wondering what size bit i should use :think:

The smallest i could find was 1.8mm and I get away with it but smaller would be better probably 1mm. You'll need a few drill bits cause they brake really easy till you get the hang of it.

Just 1 1mm hole per plate? Doesnt seem like a bad idea really

It would just act like a perforation in a perf plate during operation wouldn't it?

so why would 1mm be better than 1.8? mac's perfs are 1.5

Cause essentially you still want a bubble plate but this will allow it to drain slowly aswell

yea it seems good, not to big to affect the caps and just the right size to drain slowly. i would imagine a slow drip?

You'll be surprised how quick it runs out that little hole. 1.5 would be ok if that's what they are in a perf plate, I was going from memory and just remember mine was just that bit bigger.

I find that 99% of the plate drains just after I turn the still off, something to do with vacuum or something not sure but they unload one after another so the holes are just there to get that last bit. I also have a hole in the side of my downcomer cap at the bottom to drain them also and you can see a stream out of those when the still is running.
