Must be tomorrow today because I've pulled the finger out and actually done something!
I know I've been going slow, not agrajag slow :teasing-nutkick: but slow enough.
Got the boiler finished as well as my PC
Nothing shiny yet but that might change.
The guards work great, 1"bsp socket with a 1" male nipple/ pipe extension and a cap. I drilled a 16mm hole in the end cap for the cable gland and a small hole in the pipe for an earth. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I've got more pics on the CPU at work of the build process but it's a 2 inch stainless shotgun with 5 X 1/2inch copper pipes. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

:crying-blue: copper to stainless sucks dogs balls :crying-blue: :angry-banghead:
Have re built my RC 4-5 times now.
Trying hard solder, 56% silver.
Flows great but when it cools I hear the "tink, tink" of welds breaking. :crying-blue:
I think my problem is the copper plate cooling quicker than the stainless flange.
I tried 3 times today, quenched the first time and heard heaps of tinks. And had huge leaks.
Second time I let it air cool, but still heard the bloody tinks. Had a few pin prick sprays
Third time I quenched again and had huge leaks.
Hhhheeeelllpp ~x(
Only thing I can think is to wrap it to cool slowly or I think I remember burying in lime is the best way to slowly cool something.
Otherwise I'm going full copper or full stainless
Any ideas are welcome

Yeah, those bloody tinks!! They're so frustrating! I gave up. Weld stainless and solder copper then bolt them together. Some blokes have had success with soft solder. How did you do the pc?

IMO get some 4" copper and make the RC full copper. i have done SS to copper and while it works it is a pain. i will never do it again. 5 times, give up. just do copper RC, will be faster and cheaper as it looks

For brazeing stainless to copper or copper ta copper the ONLY stuff I would use is BOC SilverCoat 45t ,wich actualy recommends not to quench ,comes with a blue flux on the outside of the rod ,and donot over heat stainless otherwise the oxidation will not allow it to stick,i will constantaly touch the rod to the job on heat up so I know when its up to temp,if ya have sand it back to fresh metal befor trying again, this is why I recommended makeing the end plates from 3mm material as I have been thru this frustrateing merry go round a couple of times ,maybe you could pop it into a hot oven(turned off) and leave it there until it cools ,and yeah it sucks.cheers hillzabilly ;-)

I get the same tinks and leaks on a full copper rc tht i threw into the corner of my shed :angry-banghead:
There's two theories I have to over come it.
1 As you pointed out control the cooldown process so that it all cools down at one rate.
2 The first rc I made with flanged tube sections on the backing plate never leaked first go. It may be the solution to the heat changes right at the critical point and fracturing the solder.

Just my thoughts at this stage
