Nice build mate,I have found the deaper your bath depth ,the harder it is for ya downcomers to work well,its small details like that wich I found hard ta get my head around ,after starting out with and spending a lot of time getting ta know packed colomns(nixon stone desighn) Iam thinking the depth of the bottom cup may need ta be increased to avoid the blow by,wich will probably get worse operating on a bigger boiler(? power are ya throwing at it),others with more experience here may have a better suggestion tho.cheers hillzabilly ;-)

Finally got the packed section done, mig welding this light guage stuff if a pain but got it done. Anyways heres a pic of the 3" perf plate set up for vodka making.

For the defleg I made a tripple helix coil and set it into a SS reducer with SS compression fittings, It works real well, adjustments in coolant flow are reflected in the amount of condensate flowing within a minute, the biggest problem here is I'm going to have to shorten the coil a touch as with the needle valve the adjustments are minuscule, I had a gate valve on it to start with but it was uncontrollable. The PC is a single helix coil with a cold finger up the guts and it works perfect, the distillate comes off at 22 degrees celsius. SS to copper soldering is a challenge but doable.

Nice job ,if ya going to run it with a bigger boiler ie 50lt +, I would not shorten ya coil until a few runs have been completed,a bigger boiler will increase the load on the coil.cheers hillzabilly :handgestures-thumbupleft:

That is the plan, my 120lt boiler is near completion it will be powered by 2 x 3600wat elements from FSD so will wait to see how that goes. So far only tested the 3" on the 30lt boiler with 2kw element.

It looks so nice even the teddy bears in the window are staring at it!

Added another 2200 watt element to my 30lt boiler to reduce heat up times. The element only just fits lol. Cut it down to 25 minutes.
Set up in pot still mode to do some stripping runs this morning.
Including heat up time it now takes 1 hour and 10 minutes to strip a 30lt wash down to 10%.
Pretty happy with that.





The RC is turned off, I left it on so I could use my usual coolant lines and have a bit of copper in the vapour path.
