Is there a particular reason you went for a coil dephlegmator as opposed to a shotgun style?

Im thinking athe coil has good surface area while not taking up much volume, the vapour speed is still slowed around the coil allowing it to cool the liquid more, being more efficent rather than passing past it fast. Like walking or running on a hot road, is it the slow speed or the fast speed one that transfers heat faster :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Apparently it's a new design, I'll see how it goes anyways. Easy to replace if it fails and it didn't cost a lot.

The main reason I went with the coil design it the ease of building it, had it done in a couple of hours with no welding. It works very well too, knocks down 4200 watts no worries at all.

For sure, I keep getting held up on that one but it's close now. I'll still use the 30lt boiler for experimenting with the gin head, once I build the gin head that is.

So I did a spirit this afternoon, 25lt of stripped wheat wash @ 40%..
Running on both elements, 4.2kw.
Refluxing and just starting to take off forshots very slow.




Fly in the fores, it didnt last long..




Taking hearts off at about 3lt/hr @95+%..

Yeah it seems to be working pretty good. I cant believe the quality of the spirit, watered down to 40% it is tasteless and odourless and has no burn at all, almost like drinking water. I'm well happy with it.

Yeah left it on full power and controlled by the coolant.

First things first, the copper tube pushes right up to the PTFE block in the brass valve and the ball is stainless steel so no exposed brass.

Done a few runs now with the parrot, it holds 100ml. Dump the contents of the parrot in every cut bottle so no smearing.
Working well.

thats a good idea, i normally do it by hand as mine isnt mounted but i will have to look into this
