Ok guys can i get some input on my Bubbler build plans

Its gonna be a 4 plate (maybe 5 if I have too) block head with gin basket. I would like to use 3 inch for the sight glasses but i cant get any so i might have to use 2 inch. I am not sure if my packed section will be long enough, i have searched around a bit and cant find any info so hopefully u guys can tell me what u think.

Now first off I am NOT a still builder but I am a still user...
If I was you I would increase the amount of tubes in the RC and reduce the tube size. More smaller tubes will give better reflux :handgestures-thumbupleft:
I also don't think a 200mm packed section will be sufficient. I would go for at least 500mm.
Interested to see what others think.

How much head space have you got in your distilling area?

I would drop the first section of 4inch on the keg to about 50/60mm. Decrease the rc length to 100/120mm, increase the packed section as stated.

Whats your boiler connection ? 2" or 4" ?
You've got 200mm at bottom, think I'd trim that, which gives a small saving on total height

OK, i have a new plan taking into consideration everyone's advice, and i have added some more detail
No height restrictions where i distill
and it will be a straight 4 inch connection to my boiler.
I am still undecided if i have the correct diameter pipe in my RC and PC

Looks pretty good ... I'm sure some of the experts might point you in the direction of some fine tuning.

The PC looks like it will work a treat to ... But could you get 7 tubes in just because?

7 tubes in the pc is a pain in the arse with 2inch, 5 would be good.
Your rc will work perfectly at knocking down vapour. I reckon it would be good for about 11-12 amps, compared to my 100mm rc.
Probably should increase your blockhead so that the vapour will go through the basket and exit the top. Instead on limiting the basket carrying capacity, just my thoughts though.

Cheers guys, ill increase the size of my gin basket like you said rum. I don't even drink gin, i hate the shit but my mates like it so i might as well chuck one in there.

I got a start on the build yesterday, here is a pic.
I hope to have the 4 inch cut to size today and all the easy flanges done for my 4 inch section by the end of the day today.

was your 7 tube PC a 2"? i remember you had a problem or two as well

Yes. Its not easy but it can be done.

Not much progress today, I went to a 30th last night and woke up with a massive hangover. I ended up having to silver solder in my sight glass branches as I messed big time, I measured the outside diameter of my 3 inch pipe... Yep 76mm so I got a 76mm holesaw and drilled out the pipe. What do u know the hole ended up too big, the holesaw was wobbling around all over the shop. Oh well shit happens it's just going to take me a lot longer to clean up the join now.

9× 3/4" might be a squeeze for thd rc- perhaps look at 9 × 1/2"

As long as you get a good seal,and are happy with the square all is well
As for PC : reduced tube number can be mitigated by extra length.
It's all about contact area. Same with pc. If reducing tube numbers extra length with compensate.
How much power do you intend to run. ?

I will be running two 2200 elements one with a controller. I was looking at MAC's RC's and he only runs 5 what looks like half or 3/4 inch ???

you dont want to choke it up or vapour speed will be fast in there and blow past to fast and not cool on the sides of the pipes. more pipes will give more surface area and slow vapor speeed down.

Experiment for you. grab one straw and blow.
then grab 9 straws and blow. notice the difference in air speed

when air speed is fast it might not be in contact with the RC long enough to function efficiently, or at all. My 2" RC has 5 1/2" tubes at 100mm and when i run a packed section it cant do full reflux. Need a power controller
