A few more pics. Thanks again for the input lads, ill stick with my plan of 5 1/2 inch in the PC at 500mm and 9 3/4 inch at 130mm in the RC ( talked me into it WTDist, lol ). I also extended my gin basket Rum, I should of gone another 50 or 100 mm tho its gonna be a tight fit once its together, my parrot will almost be sitting no the top of the keg/boiler. I can always put a bend in the inlet of the parrot I guess to clear the keg/boiler

Almost got my gin basket finished just gotta make a handle, solder on the perforated base and make some sort of handle so I can remove it. I ended up slicing about ten mill out of the four inch pipe then soldered it back together so it slips inside.
oh and drill a 50mm hole at the bend so the vapor can flow through

Quick question for my build. Did you cut the sights to wrap around the 4" or did you just keep the pipe level and not worry about it?

Strongy12, are you brazing or soft soldering with propane torch?

The plan was to soft solder everything with a propane bottle, but I bought a 76mm hole saw and when I drilled out my four inch the hole was more like 80mm so I had to braze with an oxy because there is no way I would have got the soft solder to bridge the gaps

By setting join angle to around 80-85deg your sightglasses will drain and not pool any liquid near the glass.

I'm not sure what u mean Uoy. I drilled out the 4 inch with a hole saw and dropped the 3 inch in the hole. I thought about putting a slight angle tilting them back so the distillate didn't pool but I forgot to do it in the end, I just brazed them in at 90 degrees.

HAHAHA. Ive got a few old steel cap boots lying around 1 2many, might have to lash up a pair....
funny u posted that, I just dug a sharp piece of copper out of my foot last night.

I made some progress on my PC tonight, 5 - 1/2 inch pipes is tight but very do-able.
I found it was a lot easier to heat the 1/2 inch pipes about 40mm above the 50m plate and let the solder fill around the join rather than just heat the whole area and try to push the solder in there. Im sure the plumbers out there know what im talking about, that soft solder is runnier than my shit after a three day bender.

Bit after the fact now but i ment to use the template with a 80-85 deg join angle instead of 90 deg then solder to pipe and then cut the hole though the sight glass branch..

Sorry, I meant did you also cut the 3" like Brendan here viewtopic.php?f=36&t=3001&start=40#p45751

Or did you leave it straight and just insert the 3" into the hole in the 4"?

No i didn't do it like Brendan, Uoy I didn't have a 100 mm hole saw, but that looks like the best way to go about it tho. don't do what I did (same result but Brendan's way is neater)
