The Heart of Gold

I've had a change of scenery recently, moving to the big smoke from the bush. I've swapped a 100km highway commute for peak hour traffic, wide-open spaces for inner city living and my shed full of tools for a 2 bedroom unit with a 1.5x1.5 garden shed. Obviously, this means Agrajag is on the shelf for the foreseeable future. It also means I've got a bit more time (not working 70+ hour weeks), and access to materials etc.

A while ago I started collecting bits and pieces for a 4" bubbler (thanks to Matt_Pl for most of it), to give me something to build on the off chance that I ever finished Agrajag. Now the big rig build is parked up so I get to start on what I have dubbed 'The Heart of Gold'

Matt already cut up a few of the bits before he bought his FSD rig, so I've got

4x 150mm 4" plate sections
1x 100mm 4" RC section
1x 150mm 4" blockhead section
4x 50mm 2" bubblecaps
Enough flattened 4" for all of the plates
1/2" cut up for the RC
3/4" cut up for downcomers

I've already got most of the FSD gear I need for the build, I'll have to have a look and get onto Mac for any extras.

It'll be a relatively standard modular 4" blockhead with a 3" PC, but I do have something a bit different planned for the sightglasses, which will be 2". Boiler will just be a 50L keg with a single 2400W element, 4" still port, 2" fill port and 1" drain. I've only got 2m of headroom to play with, so no packed section or anything planned at this stage.

Plates will have a single 2" cap, 40mm riser, 3/4" downcomer with a J trap.

Tomorrow I'm going back home to grab all of the bits I need, expect things to start happening after the weekend!

Hey Zak,

Good luck with the build mate. Ive been off and had my Neutraliser parked up as well, but about to hit Darwin and have some spare time on my hands to make a recent RUM.

Good Luck with your build mate.

Cheers,

Matt

If you over build some of the parts, you maybe able to use them on Agrajag at a later date.
PC, parrot.

All the best with the move. :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Everything hanging off of the blockhead will go straight onto Agrajag, hence the 3" PC. I'll build a new parrot as well.

Cheers DBV, looking forward to being within range of some scrap yards and brew shops!

4x Plate tees, RC, blockhead, 400mm packed section and 4x bubblecaps all cut. Got nearly all the clamps and seals I need too.

2400W element and 1" BSP nipple, 1" drain with stainless ball valve, 3" SSG fill port, dial thermometer, flattened pipe for plates and 1/4" rings for the easy flanges.

Only need a little bag of FSD goodies that I'll sort out after pay day, a few glasses and a couple of clamps and I'll be good there.

I've got a touch more headroom than I though so I'm going to build a 6" thumper as well, for shits and giggles. I'll make the thumper and the packed section the same height (and only run one or the other) so the rest of the still will stay the right height.

I'm not going to put a time on it, but it's a lot more tried and tested kind of build than Agrajag so I'm hoping it'll come together a bit more readily.

Can't wait to reveal my sightglasses!

Eh Zac,
If your stuck for space for doing the build you're more than welcome to bring it up home on a weekend and we can build it in my shed. I just need to get upto the bridge and get a new oxy bottle so my heating equipment is right to go. Oxy and bunnings lpg is an awesum combo for all the heating needed too :handgestures-thumbupleft:

We could make it a weekend challenge and at the same time have my bubbler going for good measure :laughing-rolling:

I miss my angle grinder!

Cut and cleaned up the 40mm risers and slotted a bubblecap this afternoon... With a hacksaw :handgestures-thumbdown:

Watching with interest :handgestures-thumbupleft:wondering on a single 2"cap what is the recomended vapour path air gap between the riser and bubble cap

No idea bluc, but the volume of the 40x40mm riser is the same(ish) as the volume of the 50x50mm bubblecap minus the riser, if that makes sense?

Bryan, I'll get everything cut and ready to roll and I may have to head up the hill for a day! Sounds like a plan mate, I'll keep in touch.
