top job.
I've also cut a bubble plate, and soldered up the blockhead but ill clean it up a bit before I show you that.

Did you use the Map for the blockhead? Ill be waiting for the pics :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Yeah it's not much of a workshop but its all I've got!

Yeah I used MAPP for the blockhead, not enough grunt to hard solder it though... I might've got away with it if I drilled the hole out first. Should be right, I can hang a keg off of a soft soldered easy flange :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Pics tonight, there's plenty more happening today!

Hey Zac just trying to understand it a bit more. so did you soft solder the 2" branch on to the 4" and still need to cut the hole out with the branch holding a keg clamped on?

Thought of doing this myself as my mapp wasnt powerful enough also, just wasnt sure on strength. Do you think a 1/4" ring around the 2" would strengthen it, if the 1/4" was bent to follow the join but be tight to the 2"? Kid of like what i did here but not flat, following the 2" curve viewtopic.php?f=36&t=8973&start=80#p162113

I meant the soft soldered join is strong enough to hold a keg, it'll be fine with a couple of kg of PC hanging off of it. Adding a ring like you suggested there wouldn't hurt though? I'll keep it in mind if it snaps off :laughing-rolling:

Got the blockhead done and 3 plate sections flanges top and bottom :happy-partydance:

Quick snap of the blockhead! The outlet is at the top to give me more room to hang a gin basket in the vapour path ;-)

And the pile of 'done' bits is growing!

Didn't get around to cutting the rest of the SG's. I'll get a drill and some holesaws organized and get into them.

The blockhead is 160mm, the plate modules are all 130mm except the bottom plate/reducer which will end up about 160mm.

Back home from work for the day today, going to sort my downcomers out. Might even get one plate finished!

Scored heeeaps of goodies from work this week (I work in demolition). Thermometers, taps, flow indicators, sightglass discs and SwageLok fittings for my cooling lines. New screws for the SG's are on their way, the first lot I ordered are too short for the new lenses I've got!

Yeah, especially when you start knocking down things like power stations ;-)

Still playing with these sightglasses, the new lenses fit perfectly inside the ridge on Mac's seals

image.jpg

so I cut the ridge off of one side, fit the glass and sit it in the copper fishmouth

image.jpg

And sit the brass on top!

image.jpg

I'll need to trim 6 notches out of the seal for the screws, too.

Are the screws going to go all the way through to the inside of the column?

Eh Zac if you need to drill and tap those site glass mounts just bring em up when you come up and I'll throw em on the mill, program the DRO for the co -ordinates and it won't take long to do all of them. That way all will be the same so it won't matter if they get mixed up.

Anyway I do have to get on an order a 4" flange to weld on my boiler so I'll get onto that and do my first as the test bunny before I do yours.

DBV, I don't want to drill all the way through. The copper rings are about 6mm thick so I'm hoping to leave 1mm of meat there.

Bryan, mate that would be awesome! I'll flick you a PM.

got my 4 downcomer cups done today, and one DC complete. Cups are 25x25mm, downcomer is 19x75mm, flared and mitred at the bottom.

All hard soldered together, I'll soft solder them to the plate after hard soldering the riser to the plate.

Glad to hear it.
Because I can guaranteed it would leak if you drill through.
SP 1 taught me that.

I've read your Steampunk build threads more times than I care to admit mate, I was aware of the issues you had.

I've been reading about tapping a thread into copper, and apparently it can be a bit tricky. I'll see how I go, if I can't cut a thread I'll sink a stainless nut into the back of the copper ring and solder another thin copper ring over them :handgestures-thumbupleft:
