Haha grand poobah.
I'm hoping it allows me build stock up to be able to make ag islay style and do some long term aging cause at present I'm struggling to age for much longer than 6months.

That reminds me, I have a demijohn of WBAB that's been on bourbon staves since new year. Must go and check it out and see how it's come on.

Shouldn't have any trouble with that mate...

I think 1 2 is the Grand Poobah, I do love a good blockhead though!

Have you thought about a gin basket for above the RC? You don't have a lot of room in your blockhead, but another module between the RC and it could fix that.

Yeah it's definitely getting a gin basket. Was thinking 100mm gin basket with 50mm spare before the bottom of the lyne arm.

Is the blockhead a 4"x3"x4" tee? So you're going to have a ~100mm 4" section underneath the tee, above the RC?

That'd be perfect :handgestures-thumbupleft:

It is a 4x4x3 T with a 100mm section glad to hear you think it'll work.
I tried a similar thing for my current setup but had to pack too much in as it couldn't be swapped mid run and led to flooding but still made pretty awesome awesome gin. So I was hoping this would work better.

I reckon you'll be right with that setup mate! What are you going to do for the gin basket itself? I'm going to cut a couple of mm out of a piece of 4" and solder it back together to slip inside the blockhead, with a mesh bottom.

I was thinking mostly the same except was thinking about making a perforated plate instead of the mesh. But mess sounds alot easier.
I've never seen suitable mesh and was concerned about the size of the holes either letting botanicals fall through or clog up.
I didn't find much info about what works. till I chatted with rumdidlydum and what I was thinking about he'd already done.
Can I ask what mesh your thinking of?

All good zak!

So today I made up the rc. I went with 9x19mm tubes twisted to create a swirling effect and hopefully break up any laminar flow.
I found the rc alot harder to make. I ruined my first attempt at the ends. The drill bit in and tore one and badly messed up the other. I put this down to the copper being about half as thick the copper for the pc. So it pays to get thick walled pipe to flatten.

On the second attempt I still had minor shape changes but was able to work it flat without putting it out of shape. In the process though I managed to smash a finger and ended up with two blood blisters from one hit... Go figure :angry-banghead:

I decided I needed a rum and a break before silver soldering. Which I must be getting better at as I sealed it first time not third.
All up not a bad afternoon

i made mine 9 tubes at 150mm, want to be able to knock down a thumper on 4.8kw

Im not sure of the tube length. The end caps are 120mm apart. I was able to get quite a bit of twist before the pipes locked up in the end caps which worked great for the silver soldering as there was no gaps and the pipes held where I put them while I was soldering.
I should have take pics of while it was apart. I'm guessing about 50or so degrees of twist.

I got a bit done this afternoon.

I tidied up the rc. Which was a slow process. I finished the easy flange faces by putting a sheet of sand paper onto a flat hard board and made circular motion to sand the faces dead flat.
This took hours...
I cut the gin basket extension for between the rc and blockhead and easy flanged then sanded flat.
I then cut some four inch 120mm long for the gin basket. I cut it down the length and as I didn't feel like doing maths, I cut little bit by little bit until it fit inside the 4in. It was then silver soldered and worked back to a circle.
Then I made a perforated plate and silver soldered it on. I made a handle that fits right up to the top of the blockhead and silver soldered that on.

Quite happy with progress so far.

That sucks... I had a cpl with my pc and rc but were easy to fix. I really should pressure test the rc now that I've ground the pipe ends and sanded the faces flat. Just to be sure lol
