Reusing yeast

Postby Matt73 » Mon Feb 06, 2017 4:50 pm

Can you just take a 2 litre sample of the TPW at high krausen and pitch into the next brew the same as can be done with beer? Is it worth doing with Turbo Yeast or does it have extra additives that would be missing?

Gday Matt

You probably could with the TPW , but would you want to ? The bakers yeast in there cost 5/8 of bugger all

With the Turbo gunk , christ have you smelled that stuff , dont think I would even try to reuse that .

JMHO of course , others may have different ideas :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I use safyeast bakers. About $3 for 500g, not worth it

I've taken to so small batches (5l) of Ale, that I harvest the yeast from and make small starters to use for my mashes.
a 3€ ale pack does 3 beer batches, from each beer batch I get 3-4 starters for the mash.
so 9-12 mashes for 3euros worth of yeast, also a good way to dip the toe in to beer brewing :)
