yeast calculator

Postby sacredsite » Sun Aug 20, 2023 4:56 pm

Hi,
I have been searching for a yeast (lowans is the one I use) per litre calcuator for larger washes (a workmate wants to use a 200l blue plastic drum to make a wash for an early reflux still. 160 litre working cap) and I can't seem to find a calculator that will tell us what it is. I have been making rum and loving it with the mill molasses that this guys father has been supplying ,so it's a scratch my back setup.
I also have used the suggestion from this sites rum recipe (and the recipe) of adding sherry to aid aging of the rum (and tawny port but have settled on boronia marsala, now 6th gen ). I have given samples out to people I know to see how well it is received and most want to buy as much as I can make. It is not going to happen. It is not my intention or desire to profit from my hobby, but does make me feel pretty good that I'm doing something good. thanks .

How long is a piece of string mate :laughing-rolling: Yeast in it's own right in our hobby using bread yeast is a guess of how much do you want to throw in a full tin for 200 litres eh why not :handgestures-thumbupleft: as the yeast multiplies it will do what ever ferment you choose. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Now if you do a starter yeast which will make a bomb if not attended to :scared-eek: it will go a long way into using less yeast. So get the picture mate :handgestures-thumbupleft: no calc needed just use your instinct.

Cheers Bryan

Look through tried and proven. It will give you a ballpark. Pitching for distilling is different too beer usually people aim for a specific flavour to make a clone of another beer.

With distillng pitch it for what you want to do. Stressing yeast will cause specific flavours wich may be what you want but over pitching can cause undesirable flavours.

Follow the path well trodden dont try reinvente the wheel and you will get where you want faster.

Amounts of yeast per volume translate well between recipes.....
