Lowans red alcohol tolorance?

Hey guys, I've heard most baking yeasts will only ferment out to 3 to 7 percent but the forum members here tell me I can expect about 13 percent out of lowans red tin yeast, can anyone confirm that please? If I'm gonna use good ole bakers yeast I want to use the most alcohol tolerant of them!

I've got about two tins around half empty because of making pizza dough, it's a great yeast for baking
Does an awesome pizza dough with some nice italian flour!

Howdy,

If your real particular with your Lowans yeast, keep it fed, warm and in the right pH zone 13 -15% is no prob but it should be run cooler at about 27/28 to give a realistic chance. It seems to tolerate high sugar levels well however.

If your chasing fewer washes and better yields it's nearing import time for yeasts... Some up to 18% potentially.

btw Tandaco is most prolly the worst yeast I can ever remember using , apart from the cost. I would use a Willards 48 hour turbo before using it again ... taste like shit in spirit imparts a real nasty smell. Could be a one off here but I'll never use it again.

What yeast would you recommend, also I'm on the look out for suppliers of DAP and yeast nutrient cheaply, so far I haven't been able to find any suppliers in Sydney aside from home brew joints. Do you guys know of any suppliers? If I was in SA I'd have access to tons of winery suppliers but I have no idea about suppliers here in NSW.

Well I guess if you got them to post you a few blocks it would be pretty cheap, you'd get 6 blocks in a 3kg express bag for $14 postage :handgestures-thumbupleft:

the few times I've used it seems just the same as any other bakers yeast, I dont push my yeast past 10% alc in a wash so couldnt say to be axact.

we had a few chilly nights here below 8 Celsius and the UJSM wash it's currently working didnt stall, so it's pretty good I reckon.

edit: taste is fine :handgestures-thumbupleft:
