Well weird but 7 days into 3rd gen and the wash is still sweet as hell
The ph is low and the yeast is bubbling slowly
What u guys reckoning have tried to adjust the ph but its hard in a 200ltr fermenter to get it right will pay more attention to adjust when adding back slop next time

But it is 200litres of wash and a bit of a waste think ill right this one off as a fuck up and start a new gen

Why not dissolve 4 tbsp of citric acid in a cup of water and stir it in? Maybe some more nutrient?

Have you tried adding some nutrients? What exactly is your ph? What type of wash is it? I would be avoiding turfing 200L of wash if I could.

Have added some nutes in there ill just fiddle with it untill it finishes if it does

Maybe break it down into smaller quantities and experiment with them.

If you intend wasting it .... why not experiment and see what could be done?

To be honest i don't normally add bugger all in the way of nutes in my washs but haven't had to
But think i will in the future

It is 200litres of 3rd gen ujssm just 25kg sugar and 25odd litres of backslop from last strip
Ec 1118 is the yeast

Temperature?

Yea temp is proberly paying its toll its sitting around 18c pritty cold atm here in nz
Has a electric blanket the dogs blanket(clean) and some other sheets on it
Will check temp in the morning but mainly sitting around 18-20c last few at same temp finished in 5 -6days
Ph is 3.5 so lowish
May b i should kick the wifey out of bed and wack the fermenter in there

That's not going to help a low ph... Citric acid will make it lower

One citrus acid is a buffer acid so it will help a little but given your low pH yes definitely put an alkaline in and raise the temp some how either a drum or box over it with a light in there or a spare lecky blanket or go get an Aquarium heater

Ill go get a aquarium heater for it tomorrow what would u suggest to get the ph up

some use bicarb, that works. I use hydrated lime coz I'm RAF but it works too :laughing-rolling: . yep a lot of guys cut the plug off , drill a small hole in the fermenter lid and feed the cord thought sealing it with silicon and re-attaching another plug. Others cut a big enough hole for the plug and re-seal with a slightly bigger plate and some don't give two fucks about sealing :roll:

Yea i tried bicarbonate but dident have much affect

Should still be action at 3.5 can you hear or see any fermentation signs?

Was your backset cool before you poured it in ? Didn't accidentally cook the yeast ?

You could get a paint stirrer on a electric drill and aerate the shit out of it , and Pitch more yeast if that doesn't help

Yea backslop was around 25c there is still some fermenting going on it is bubbling threw the air lock just mega mild
Might go pitch some more yeast and c if that helps

Also a quick rock of the fermenter to just get some yeast back into suspension often wakes them up too.

Very common for home brewers to be out shaking the fermenters if the wash stalls. Careful tho - if it isn't ph and all the yeast needs is a nudge you might end up with foaming wash everywhere if the fermenter is too full.
