ATM. Two 25l batches of gen4 macrum. Both put down on same day. One in a fridge set at 30c. On in spare room which is at 28 or 30c every time I check it. One in fridge is on 1100sg. Other one is way of the end of the hydrometer. Maybe 1400. Might swap positions

If your SG is 1.400 then I'm not surprised its not fermenting .Did you fuck the recipe or something because that is ridiculously high

SG 1.100 is a much more typical Rum reading

I've just had to throw 2 25l washes out that failed due to cold weather. I've just put 2 new down today to see how it goes. I've got a jumper around each bucket, and a heat belt on the outside of them positioned about 4 inches from the bottom. Given that I don't really know what I'm doing, I'm going to experiment with the two, one for a few hours at a time as recommended on here & the other through a heat regulator that I bought with them. Not sure how to get the probe into the bucket without drilling a hole, so I'll tuck it inside the jumper in a position higher up the bucket.
Hopefully that works as stocks are so low it's scaring me lol

You don't have to throw out a 'failed' wash, mate... Generally, a wash will start fermenting again with a good stir and some heat or, in some cases, another sprinkle of yeast...

Also, if the wash is more than half fermented, it's probably worth chucking it through the still anyway, if you don't want to wait for a whole new batch to ferment :handgestures-thumbupleft:

A good method of keeping your wash warm is using a couple of heater bands which can be switched on and off depending on the ambient temp, but to also pull old tee shirts and sweat shirts over your fermenter.
