Last time I went to Coles for supplies they didn't have the 280g tins of Lowans either. I have a feeling it's down to their new store layouts, in a effort to make them appear cleaner and less cluttered they've reduced the shelf heights and spaced the aisles out more, the flipside of being more aesthetically appealing though is that they don't have as much room for stock... they did the same with Myer, KMart and Target over the last few years as well, Coles Myer management decided they didn't want them looking like bargain shops with shit everywhere.

Try Woolies instead, every one that I've been to carries it

That article was about controlling what welfare recipients can spend their dole on so they don't drink or smoke it all or stick it in the pokies. I'm all for a good conspiracy theory but I think you're off the mark with this one ;)

:laughing-rolling: yep that's right SBB and probably camouflage nets too ;)

For what its worth 'MY' Coles (and I use that term VERY lightly) still has Lowans Yeast (Red) and there are lots of different socio-economic types living in this neck of the woods.
McStill et al (just in case) can you recommend another bakers yeast for 'your' TPW recipes, at least?

Wouldn't the Gold be better as it looks like its better suited to higher sugar levels?

The gold is deigned for sweet dough's and would impart a sweet flavor that you may or may not want in a wash.
The red will still handle the high sugar (what we use in TPW isnt that high) without any undue sweetness and the red will be the closest to Lowans

Franklins still sells this yeast, coles and woolies in my area doesn't have it. The one I grabbed today has a Dec 12 best before date so it seems fresh.
