Hi guys,
Curious to weather someone may be able to point me in the direction of a good lpg torch for 9kg bottle?

Regards
Nathan

I was in Bunnings yesterday and it looks like they have a new range of trade flame gear in. Doesn't look overy cheap but it's something that will last a long time.

Only soft solder mate and hard soldering 1/4" for easy flanges :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I should expand on that for ya sorry. I built my 6" rig with an lpg torch so it will handle it. Ive got 2 tips though, one about 25mm for biger stuff like 6" and ennealing stuff if I need to flatten pipe for plates etc and one that is about 10-15mm for smaller more controlled work like less than 4". All soft solder though.

Hope that helps

yep thought so mate cheers. Will go with the oxy. Bloody keen to get this bubbler moving along! all modules cut, and perf plates made, starting to get into the nitty gritty with the PC and RC build and soldering up the downcomers.

If you want to go oxy you can buy an oxygen gas bottle now from most engineering suppliers. When it's empty you just take back and swap it for a full one and just pay for the oxygen. Its a lot cheaper than renting a bottle from BOC at $120 or more per year.
Rather than going acetylene you can go LP gas. It's a lot cheaper and will do hard brazing no problems. Once again you can get the regulator from most engineering suppliers.

Any particular reason you want to go hard solder?

Bunnings also do oxy/acetylene bottle swap setup. I brazed but its not needed. I sat modules on a gas bbq and helped it along with a mapp gas torch 5% solder. Was a pain in the ass in places like rc where there is a lot of copper in a small space which acts like a heatsink, and long sections like pc .

I ended up buying a torch like woodduck linked to and used that along with the map torch and it worked better than bbq burner.. :-B

Hey woodduck I just find that silver solder flows easier and you dont have to stuff around fluxing and cleaning joins

Fair enough mate :handgestures-thumbupleft: I've found the opposite myself but I guess it's what ya used to.
Enjoy the build, I look forward to it

I have an LPG torch from bunnings and was able to hard silver solder the 4in column I made. I had to be out of the wind and exercised some patience on heat up but even the rc wasn't too difficult.
