Thanks mate, was just about to come on here and say it's all good I worked it out  . I just
soldered it and cooled it down then brushed the open spot with flux and put heat straight onto it and let the flux drawn the solder in. Worked well 3 times :handgestures-thumbupleft: . I guess it's much the same as welding a big gap, build the gap up till it's full.

McStill wrote:The bernzo stuff is shit hot for copper to copper but no good for SS to copper, you really need a highly acidic flux for SS ti CU joints.

I use ezi weld 801.... might want to correct your post so as not to confuse anyone, but you only got 15 minutes to correct it ;-)

I read somewhere about painting the stainless with a coat of hydrocloric acid before soldering with a regular flux......Anyone tried mixing a small amount of hydrocloric acid with this Bernzomatic flux? Got a shitload of hydrocloric acid left over from a previous DIY job and plenty of that bernzo flux. Might give it a test before I spend 10 bucks on some flux i will probably only use once.

I have soldered SS to copper with benzo flux and eziweld. I found the eziweld a lil easier but the main thing for me seemed to be the heat, get that right and the solder will flow. Just don't rush it and take your time and build up the heat.
I haven't used acid so can't comment but my joins without it have worked fine.

Yep I found the eziweld stuff better than the bernzo stuff. The bernzo stuff melts pretty quickly and produces a heap of smoke where as the eziweld stays solid for longer and does not produce a lot of fumes.

You bastards!

Hiding this ezi-weld secret...

This ezi-weld and copper to stainless is the easiest bit of soldering I've ever done... quick as well.

IMHO it is the "only" flux for SS to copper :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I wished I'd tried this earlier, as it's that easy and join is very smooth, clean and strong I would have altered design of new still to get some SS in for effect...

Thanks Mc this flux is true gem.

Cam they stack together, wasn't a consideration when making em...more about, flask, bottle and keg size.

I hope you don't mind me stealing this funnel idea bt1?.

I just thought of a new saying too, "If there's solder at your feet, you've got to much heat "

Anyone on the gold coast found this ezi weld 801? Bunnings have 602 and when you ring up plumbing shops they just have "flux". Only they solders to go and they are all SS. =)

Ezi weld is a brand that makes flux, the 602 type is your normal plumbing type, the 801 is slightly more acidic.
And yes, you can do it with butane :handgestures-thumbupleft:

801 is ezi-weld's product, if you're after an equivalent,I'm not sure about other brands.
You will have to ask for a more acidic flux ;-)

So since its a flux do you still have to use a silver rod ??? or is this a paste that melts/flows in ?

the flux needs to be applied to both surfaces which are being soldered.
It acts as a cleaner of sorts and helps the solder to flow nice and stick.
when i say 'solder' i mean the stuff you get on a roll, not a stick ;-)
to make it easy, get one of thesefrom bunnings :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hi. The local Lead light bloke just sold me a bottle of EziWeld 801. He does not use it as is is not the best for his lead work. Picked up the bottle from him but there is no label on it. He brought it some time ago. Do I just try it? And if it works just use it or do I not take the health risk? He sold it to me for $5.00 for the 500ml bottle. Cheers Brian
