I picked up this Primus kit from Bunning. The new place, Masters didn't have anything equivalent; but the price they have on the Benzo Plumbers kit is better. With the weekend almost here I know what I'll be doing with it.

I bought some aquasafe 100 yesterday 3.2 mm 500g roll $22 from consolidated alloys bunnings want $38

I saw earlier that you used the Ezi-Weld 801 flux, but I was just wondering about the Bernzo stuff.

The bernzo stuff is shit hot for copper to copper but no good for SS to copper, you really need a highly acidic flux for SS ti CU joints.

I use ezi weld 801.... might want to correct your post so as not to confuse anyone, but you only got 15 minutes to correct it ;-)

Complete noob for metal skills - looks hell messy (but then is got insulation over it) - but it does work.

That's pretty good going, I couldnt get it to work properly ;-)

I brought the bernzomatic torch and solder kit, must say it does a good job!. And cheap.

Just for anyone who wants to check out the products mentioned in this thread before using them, here are the MSDSs:

• Ezi-Weld 801 (Zinc Chloride <30%, Hydrochloric Acid <30% and Ammonium Chloride <10%), which Mac uses.
• Cigweld Comweld 965 (Zinc Chloride <59%, Ammonium Chloride <10%, Hydrochloric Acid <10% and Acetone <1%), which MR-E uses.
• Bernzomatic water soluble flux (Zinc Chloride <3%), which NotBenStiller has had success with.

Did the looking today. Just thought I'd share.

Just to point out I only used Cigweld Comweld 965 because I couldn't find the Ezi-Weld 801 that Mac uses, also had to learn to solder
S/S to copper pretty quick after www.5stardistilling.com.au supplied the S/S bling for the charity build 8-}

Thought I'd give the stainless to copper soft soldering a go today.

The kit:


Tracked down some of the Ezi-Weld 801. Even stole a couple of new scrubbers from the kitchen cupboard. :))

The setup:


I applied the heat to a bit of dry-fitted scrap 2", so that I could get heat into the coupler and (not pictured here) stainless ferrule join without burning flux.

Just done:


As you can see, got a bloody dog's ball. Actually there's one on the other side too. :laughing-rolling:

Cleaned up:


Balls gone. :shock:

A nice bead:


I like a nice, faint bead of solder running around the inner part of the join. I take it as a sign that there's enough solder in the join.

So, thanks to McStill and others in this thread for showing me how it's done. Might head into the shed for a bit more practice tomorrow. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Those dogs balls only happen once the SS gets too hot, dont worry though you can desex it later :D

Main thing is you got the joint full & now it looks perfect :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I still get the odd dogs ball when I lose concentration, but the beauty of using soft solder is it cleans up so easily.... even if it's not to drag car or NASA specifications :))
