can I just clarify you mean the cylinders filled where 4.5kg ones not 45kg?

I suspect and have read here somewhere that LPG/Propane guns can be used on 4.5kg or smaller but on larger cylinders require a variable pressure reg to used.

I got mine on a 45kg bottle no problem

Fuck me I put 45 It was on a 4.5 kg

The gas fitter/plumbing joint I got my hose off this arvo, had a bit of time up my sleeve and thought I'd use it constructively, said there was no problems using these hoses on the bernzo hand piece, although the hand piece was not intended to be used this way. He said it was a fucking smart idea all the same :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:

yep,

I'm good with it if it runs on a 8.5kg bottle without hassles its a great find...

to think I've burnt about 4 -5 f those little expensive blue bastards plus MAPP Pro...what a waste and there's no bloody proper recycling for the cylinders...shear waste....

Thanks DrunkASAskunk.

Sorry had to question it .You all got me feeling safe about it now Cupcake also :handgestures-thumbupleft: Like that its not much more than the price of a blue bottle for the hose and reckon it would be much easier to handle than trying to hold a torch with one of those Fat Blue bastards on the bottom :-D

I hope you didn't grab the last hose from the shop :)) I'll have to invest in one. Looks much easier than moving around a bulky canister.

Has anyone got any feedback on using this setup? I'm getting ready to build a 4" bubbler and see this a great alternative to buying anymore little blue bottles. (Sorry for the old thread revival.)

Also got me very interested!

Are the MAP torches compatible with the propane bottles? Could you buy one MAP kit for a few little hard solder jobs, and use the same torch with a hose to a gas bottle?

The one at masters is compatible with Bernzo units but has a high pressure reg. I believe it's Bromic, and it costs more.

Was looking for feedback on this setup as it has no reg and is very cheap. I too am very interested.

What do people think of this?

https://www.bunnings.com.au/gasmate-900 ... r_p3180441

It says it works with the propane cans so i assume its an adapter for the torch to join to a cylinder?

That looks good.

I'm a bit torn between that and another 1.5m one at Bunnings https://www.bunnings.com.au/tradeflame- ... _p5910248'

It does not have to be a braided line.
The grey one is AGA certified to take the pressure.
Its the one i will be getting.

Couldn't care less about the braiding, more wondering about the length.

So I can leave the gas bottle on the ground and solder stuff on my bench.

It is however hard to justify double the cost for that extra length.

i'm not sure where the fear factor is. LPG is PROPANE... Get the right fittings for the torch and bottle...no probs.Care with threads/check for leaks...simple. No reg required on the BBQ bottle as it is reasonably low pressure and the torch has a demand valve/reg...safe.
The temp is exactly the same because LPG IS propane.Over 20 years ago, when LPG was 11c per lit, i had an adapter made up, as many do, and filled 45kg (100 lit) house bottles regularly. Was careful not to exceed 80% fill and they dont explode cos they have a safety release valve..
not smart, but when you are young and trying to save a quid... you do stuff.
Carelessness is what gets dudes blown up, welding/smoking/naked flame nearby... now that IS dumb. I just never understand when u hear on the news where a house bottle just randomly blows up... some dudes are obviously fucking with it.
sorry to ramble...Love the Bullfinch... bit late now all my stuff is almost done.

I will be welding with a naked flame connected to the lpg :scared-eek: ,that's where my fear is coming from.

do you mean a flame will be present around an propane cylinder? that is the norm isnt it, or have i been doing it wrong :/
