My one is a commercial one from Bluelab and only requires the probe to be kept continuously wet with clean water when not in use. Calibration should be carried out periodically using ph7 (or 3) solution available at pet shops, ( for fish tanks), and hydroponics suppliers.
I use it to answer customer questions about their water supply, and for my spa pool.
I have had several of those cheap ones like from Jaycar etc. but reliable tools always cost more.
Sure beats test strips for convenience and acuracy though.
