Calculating volume of tube in litres

Was thinking about how big a thumper needs to be to hold say 5ltrs of liquid.
Can't find a formula to suit.

Is there someone out there with a formula for this?

Volume of a cylinder equals pi x radius squared x height.

Volume of a cylinder is 3.142 x radius squared x height, so a piece of 100mm (4") copper would have to be 630~mm high to hold 5L...

Another thing you might have to take into consideration is the vapour downcomer (?) in the middle of the thumper (if you are building it that way)

So (5L/1000) = (pi*(r[radius of outer thumper]^2 )*h - (pi*(r[radius of downcomer]^2)*h
Where h is the variable you are after. So just plug the numbers in and you will end up with 0.005 = VALUE*h then divide 0.005 by the VALUE and you have your height in meters of the thumper to hold 5L whilst considering the volume taken up by the downcomer thingy

Wont be much of a size diff

Damn that internet its so fast .

I had just remembered my school maths ,scaled the formula to suit mm rearranged so you could work out length or volume ,Scanned went to upload and bugger .Bet by Google :laughing-rolling:

I learnt this formula at a dogmans course
