Hi Folks,

I have been practising my soft soldering (and failing miserably at making easy flanges).

Does anyone have any tips on removing debris from failed soldering attempts?

Sand paper, steel wool and trying to melt the solder again have failed to get the bunnings Tradeflame lead-free solder off my copper.

Do I need to have perfectly clean copper before trying again, or is bit of old solder no biggie if I smooth it a bit?

For clean up i use a "magi-cut" file from Nicholson, removes metal at the rate of a bastard file but leaves the finish of a 2nd cut file.
Its quite usefull, I'll post a pic of it if your interested.

Remove most of the old solder, give it a quick clean with emery and then just re-flux it to go again.

i pulled a ring off one copper pipe and soldered it on to ss pipe last night with my best success yet :)) . i just heat it up and let it drop off on its own while its hot. if it doesnt move or drop off use some gentle persuasion hits/turns :))
then i use a rag to clean up the solder if i need to, while its hot and melted. a damp rag would be good but use gloves as it will get hot quick. just wipe it like you would wipe something else clean and the melted solder wipes off smooth as. be careful. hot solder burns if it goes through the rag
