rerounding 6" copper pipe

I found about a meter of 6" copper pipe in the scrap bin in the workshop. Yippee!
Someone has backed over it. Booooo!
Is there an easy way to bring it back to round or is it destined for plates only?
It's not flat. Its about halfway squished. One half is still round but obviously impossible for me to cut shorter with pipe cutters.

Aneal it, put a large pipe in the vise about 3 or 4 inch, and gently tap it with a mallet till round :think:

You could seal the ends putting a air hose in one end and then inflate to expand the pipe .

you would want to make sure you anneal it right then. What pressure we talking? wouldnt be your standard 10 amp compressor for a nail gun would it?

It will never look right again.
The only way to do it would be to clamp the round end in a vice, tight enough to hold it but not squash it, anneal the flattened end and pull a mandrel through.

If it were me i would cut the squashed section and use it for plates of a thumper and keep the round section for the column.

When I say half is round I mean the back of it. Not Half a meter is fine and the rest is squished. There's an indent running the length of it.
Dont have access to a mandrel that size either. I think plan A is my best shot. Will post before and after pics when I'm done.

Oh, well then a mandrel will be hard work getting in, in the first place.

Yeah that could work.
Cut them to the length you want, or what can fit in your rollers, slide it in and give it a go.
Rollers will need to be clean and smooth otherwise it will leave impressions all over your copper.

:text-+1: I would be takin it to the sheet metal shop ,and see if they reckon the rollers will pull it straight again.As long as they have the type of rollers you can open at one end,otherwise there would be no way ta get her in and out.cheers hillzabilly ;-)

Designed for plates only they are flat just cut off a 8 in piece then slit it down one side and open it out and flatten it :teasing-tease:

I thought of that actually. Flatten the reroll into an almost 12" x 12" inline thumper. Would be huge!
Would rather reshape and cut into 160 mm lengths for plate sections with easy flanges then buy some plates from fsd.
I dont really care if my stills are pretty, if you look at my 2" bubbler you'll see what I mean, so long as they are efficient and effective.

Maybe it is best to make it into a thumper, do you have a scrappy near you that you may have a chance of finding some 6" one day?
