so going to give all grain corn another go soon.

If i place a 50L keg inside a 140L pot filled with water and keep the keg off the bottom, will that actually work?

I really want to distill on the grain. I have the mashing of corn down pat, its just the separating of solids which is a bitch.

Yeah it will, it will be slow and you will need to keep topping up the water over the course of the run, which will drop the water temp.
It may be hard to maintain a boil.
I would just try to strain it, probably end up less effort.

Are you going to have a cover on the pot to limit heat escaping..

I could do that, i could nearly build a wooden lid so that all that comes out of the pot is the condenser

use the big pot as the boiler for the clear liquid and make the keg in to a thumper where your grain goes?

What i was thinking also but there is some issue like over flowing the thumper. Boiler needs to be big enough to not boil dry and the all in one thumper/mash tun/fermenter needs enough headroom to be able to reach temp and strip alcohol without over flowing from steam condensing. :-B

You would need to throw a shitload of heat at a bainmarie style boiler to get the still run done. Have a look at the double boiler in my signature. Works great :handgestures-thumbupleft:
