80L boiler build

Postby r1zzla » Tue Feb 28, 2017 3:08 am

I finally got most of the bits together to increase my boiler size to be able to do a run with 60L.

An 80L keg, some shiny bits from FSD, some gas for the new tig welder and some videos on how to tig weld.

I attacked with an angle grinder an tried to get a nearly straight line for the ferrule holes.

After trying for hours with drill bits and hole cutters :angry-banghead: I borrowed a plasma cutter from a mate - so much easier

I extended the ferrules for the elements to allow for the shape of the keg and the tigged all the ferrules inside and out.

Added some legs and closed up the hole in the front

Now just have to do the drain pipework & valve, wheels on the legs and a controller for the elements. Which will all have to wait until I get back in a couple of months.

Excellent stuff mate. I assume you're not planning on bolting a little Pure Distilling reflux on top?

I did buy a 4"-2" reducer to be able to do exactly that, but long term will be after a Neutralizer :happy-partydance:

Looking good mate. Been hunting round for one of these kegs to do the exact same thing.

Nice work r1zzla, I really like the sideways boilers. Looking forward to seeing it when you've finished.
