Element position

Hey guys,

Have one of macs 2400 weldless elements i want to install into a 50l beer keg. Just curious where the optimum height in the keg would be for installation. Cheers!

As low as possible so you can run small washes without having the element get exposed.

We put ours around the back so we can work on the front without tripping over wires and protruding elements ...

Am building a keg boiler also! This is helping haha.

Is one of 5 Star's 2400w elements OK? And is there a need to run a controller or just as is?

5star have bloody good elements :handgestures-thumbupleft:

If your running a pot still you will need a power controller for the spirit run, 2400w will be too much and will smear your cuts.

For a pot you will need a controller. For a keg two 2400w ones would be better. I have a single 3600w wired as two seperate 1800w ones which i find good. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

One problem with the weldless elements is that you are have ta mount them on the straight area of the keg,and not over the weld line as sealing could be a problem unless ya grind it smooth and flat,were as a ferrule could be welded on or over the bottom curve and weld line ,I put a tow ball in the keg and put washers and a nut on the outside and gave it a go with my rattle gun,this flatterns the area around the hole makeing sealing much easier with the weldless elements,wich is the radius of the keg working against the flat mounting element mounts.My first choice would be non weldless elements two by 2400wt elements with one element only wired ta give 1200wt (bridgeing between elements removed)and FSD element guards,with the ferrules I had welded to the keg I had the welder add a 25mm piece of 2inch stainless tube makeing it easy ta go lower and run the elements parralel , giveing the option of 1200wt for pot stilling wich in my opinion is about close to the amount used with minimal smearing and a good balance for a 50lt pot still,or 2400wt for a 2inch reflux still or stripping,or a 4inch bubbler,and 3600wt for heat up and stripping or for a 4inch plated still with packed section,with out the need for a power control in my opinion.cheers hillzabilly ;-)
