today I did some work on the boiler, and mounted the elements
I cut up some stainless I found around the back of the guiloteen at the local engineering shop in town
Image
and started with the idea of less distortion by doing one at a time , instead of both at once
Using the mounting plate to trace around, then set to the keg and cut the first square out
Image
I then ( arc ) welded around the heads of the bolts to make sure there is no leaks, and welded the first plate in place
then traced the next hole
Image
Image
this is what it was like with both plates welded in ,
Image
This is inside the keg, showing element placement, Spot On  :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Image
A bit of wiring and there done
Image

After this I filled the keg with 72 litres of water, worriedly searching for water leaks, None ( I can't fucking believe it :laughing-rolling: ) , plugged it in to the controller and served it the fuckin juice
it took it 48 mins to bring the 72 litres to 78*c
Pretty happy with that

And I know ya gunna get up me 5Star , for doing me boiler , BUT , it's fuckin Sunday :teasing-neener: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

Cant wait to see it all done n dusted in it's housing mate, but your got some competition for the sexiest boiler if you look at the topic below this one.

Better pull ya finger out :laughing-rolling:

Yes that is a nice job, I first thought the angle of the elements might make them touch each other, but looks like it turned out rather well.

+1
Looks like they were made for it,,,,,as it should. Will your cover be a single box or a pair?

Carry on as you do.....

Might be an idea Draino, to weld a bit of flat bar across the top and down both sides, maybe 3/4 or 1 inch, this should help any liquid running down the sides to flow away from the electrical, then put a cover either over the top, or probably a better idea, inside the flat bar, so it can act like a gutter, get my drift...?

I have thought about what your talking about Aud & Larry, when its being mounted into the barrel I will then assess then, as well as set-out the drain and draw off pipes, I reckon mounting this keg into the barrel is going to be the hardest part of this build, but I reckon I can make it work :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:
I sorted out the lid on this thing using the 4mm silicon sheet BD sent me for the Job, Thanks BD , that silicon is pure fucking magic , I cut the Gaskets for the elements 50mm od x 36mm id Stuck 'em on the element, stuck the element in the hole and torqued the nuts to 5 Nm ( instruction sheet said 15Nm ) and the silicon sealed like a little fuckin beauty
Image
Image
and it should end up looking something like this
Image
the drain and draw off bits and pieces
Image

I cant really do the drains and the 4" flange now, it'll depend on mounting into the barrel, so..... its ( fucking around with a) barrel time from here on in :?

they are 2.5mm stainless rods, they got UTP 65 marked on them, I got them at the local engineering shop , they dont come cheap though
it cost me $ 3.95 + gst EACH ( they are only 200mm long ) :o
I got 10 and need about 6-8 more :angry-banghead:

I have never welded stainless before , so.. it took about $6 to learn , and then into it , the amps varied from about 40 thru to 45 , Its just like welding mild steel :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:

edit in : the welder is a borrowed esetti inverter welder, (big horsepower in a small port deal type welder)

yeah but could you do it with a $40 stick welder ? or do you have a good one

$6 to learn is cheap LOL :laughing-rolling:

I reckon if you can do a good weld with ya $40 dollar welder with a 2.5 mm gp rod , you would burn these rods , no probs :handgestures-thumbupleft:
