Cheers bluc... :text-thankyoublue:
Never heard of it before, wasnt sure if it was some special stuff or not.
Anything to speed up heating up time would be a bonus.

Bunnings and the like do stock it in small bags in the gardening section but it’s dear as poison.
I got mine from a place here in rocky that stocks all kinds of different building materials.
If you google Ausperl you should be able to locate a supplier cheaper.
Best to go the course grade. Larger particles and less mess.

Thanks for your help dB on calculating the angles for the barrel pieces :handgestures-thumbupleft:

So they worked out without any dramas?

Ahhh, not quite, but that’s because I only had a protractor and bevel to set the angle on the jointer. There were some 1mm gaps or so on the inside, but nothing that liquid nails couldn’t solve :laughing-rolling:

Cheers mate!
Less mess is always good, especially around the house... :naughty:
I was thinking some insulation paper, but im guessing this would be 10 times better.

I think so, you have to make something that will hold it in though.
Check this out, 10:50pm, temp of the backset is still almost 80 degrees
Can’t see it in the photos but there’s still heaps of steam coming out

Temp this morning is still 58 degrees with steam still coming off :scared-eek:
I got 100L bag for $50, way more than I need but worked out cheaper than Bunnings
Hydro store might be the go for you city folk :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Now I’m trying to think up a cheap easy way to use it to insulate fermenters..

Just find some non food grade containers that are bigger than your fermenters, NFG ones are usually dirt cheap. You wouldn't even need wide mouth ones, just cut the top off at the right height and some cling wrap/ pallet wrap/ duct tape to seal the top

Sounds like a good concept for a malting/enzyme set up for AG....

How sealed is the vermiculite from the top? I would be worried about spilling stuff into it, its also very good at holding fluids and thereby smells

Just about

I didn’t think about absorbing smells RC, the lid is a pretty tight fit though :think: might see how it goes after the first time I spill some wash, which we all know happens 8-}
I can always silicone it up if need be

Hey mate that looks Grouse! :handgestures-thumbupleft:
You said it now heats up in 1hr10min, how long did it take before?

Also for other dudes,I think some kitty litter is vermiculite, might be cheaper? I dunno.

Cheers mate, I never used it before adding the third element and insulation but the calculator in the newbies corner says it would have been over 2 hrs.

I bet they're easily removed to allow the boiler to cool down quicker at the end of your run. WJ's boiler is probably still at 58 degrees. :teasing-neener: :teasing-neener:
