Procurement of SS kegs...

Postby karrotbear » Mon Aug 06, 2012 4:40 pm

Hello, just wondering, how do you guys procure your 50L SS Kegs? Do you just run up behind a club, see them chilling and snatchem?

And I've been calling around to all my local bars in search of empty glass bottles, none of them would let me rummage through their recycling bin. What kinda country do we live in, if one man isnt allowed to go through another mans recycling?!

Okay then, how do you legitimately procure one? as I understand that the kegs are always the property of the respective brewery/provider and are not explicitly for sale, much like milk crates.

Give your local scrap metal yard a call, or better yet, drop in. You'd be suprised on what toys they have hanging around.
Also, you'll find some decent copper, may not be as pretty as new. But with a bit of elbow grease you will save mucha molla $$$$ :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Kegs do get decommisioned once they get to a certain stage of their life I believe. Then they are free game.

Also someone said on another thread that keg king sell them.

Probably wont have much luck getting a gas bottle from a pub as I reckon they would all be hired from BOC etc.

You can use a CO2 fire extinguisher with the dip tube removed (preferably) and get it filled with beer gas.

EDIT: I should read posts more carefully, disregard the gas bottle advice. As for glass bottles ask your mates to keep theirs and you should have a few quick smart (at least if your friends are piss heads like mine :teasing-tease: )

I have seen legitimate kegs for sale in years gone by. Some may have the company logo stamped out, they may be reconditioned or brand new.

Although kegs maybe easily convert into boilers, there are lots of other stainless steel vessles that can be used :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Kegs are supplied to outlets on a deposit basis.
I've bought by simply offering up the deposit and taking away - with thanks - on both sides.
