Stainless Welds Rusting

Postby unsub » Mon Oct 01, 2012 11:22 am

Hi guys

I recently had some ferrules welded into a stainless keg and when I cleaned them up with some water they immediately rusted. After doing some research it looks like the welds need to be pickled and/or passivated? Is there a simple solution to this that will not render the keg toxic? I used my dremel to grind back the welds and it seems to have fixed one area but there are still some rusty bits on the welds. If I grind it right back and clean it should that stop the rust?

I'm a total noob to welding but I thought stainless was not supposed to rust?

cheers

Awesome thanks for that, just what I was looking for. Looks like I will be buying some acetone tonight.

Yeah I reckon I'll hit the welds again with a flapper disk and clean them up with acetone.
