Insulation = huge difference in boil time

Postby BackyardBrewer » Fri Nov 16, 2012 8:09 am

Well I strapped the broken windscreen sun shield (the foil type plastic ones) to my electric boiler and heat up time to 80° was 46 minutes compared to anywhere from 70 minutes (or more in winter).

Fucking good tip from the forum, thank you!

Ps: ugly as shit looking but damn! Save time save power save money!

I put some camping/yoga mate around my boiler (T500). I didnt think there was a huge change in heat up time maybe a saving of 10-15min but it did seem to run hotter and the whole stripping process on 25L went quicker.

So for an investment of $10 i reckon it was worth it. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

U leccy users have more options as far as insulation goes, I can't use anything other than steel and bricks!

A blanket or mat around the fermenter also speeds things up in cool weather too! :)

For insulation ideas for gas users, look at kiln insulation products.
I think I will track down some Rock wool/glass wool or ceramic blanket
Here's one link for ideas
