Looking for ideras on what to use for a large boiler

Postby DrunkASAskunk » Mon Apr 15, 2013 3:07 am

So I have been serching all over the net to fined a larger boiler. I am wondering if any one has any idears on what I could use. I have looked for SS gas tanks, old hot water systems and even thought of welding my 2 50L kegs together that was my original plan but I wish to keep my kegs as they are.
My serching on the net as led me to this web site in the USA http://conical-fermenter.com/products/brite-tanks/ and beleave me I would love one as they look very cool but the price is abit hight.
If it was already in Australia it might be a diffrent thing at that price. What I would like to acheve ultimately with such a large boiler is to put my two 60L wash in at the same time. I hate the idear of needing to do 4 wash runs befor I can even start a spirit run.
So my next step is to look at building a larger boiler from scrach. Serching for some large diameter SS pipe and just doing it. I just hope some of you guys might have a better idear.

Thanks for any imput that you might want to give. o:-)

This may be out of left field but look at truck wreckers on the side Of the trucks you can find up to 100 l ss water tanks pros:- already water tight, have mounting brackets already attached and can range from 60l up. Cons :- may be expensive, can be hard to find, not sure of wall thickness, may only be as small as 60l.
This was what I was going for until I found my 18 g kegs

Apparently many of the commercial stainless boilers are made out of giant paint tins, which come from National Cans. Maybe they are worth a look:

you can pick up nice second hand boilers from the same metal recyclers where you buy your second hand copper tube... we did, complete with a gas burner under neath. You just have to be Johnny on the spot. :teasing-tease:

I've got no idera :teasing-neener:

For slightly more helpful input, you could build/buy a bubbler and you wouldn't need to do 4 wash runs either :-D

How about this one?

If it was a third of the price I would consider buying it :laughing-rolling:

An old copper hot water service tank would work.
They are getting hard to find these days.
Check out some of the used machinery suppliers/scrappies, there are lots of good tanks/vessels that get re sold via these dudes, they are usually seen as too good for scrap, and the scrappies see the cash.
