How much gas are you using ?

I am keen to know how much gas people are using to do both stripping and spirit runs (if there is a difference) on their gas fired rigs.
I have made some gas burners for my foundry and it would be nice to know some consumption rates to expect if I make my own, for my pot project.
Cheers

I can get five runs in on one 8.5kg bottle if I minimize the tails collection on the fifth run. (Found that out yestie... :)) )

And my burner is hotter than Katy Perry....

I'm amazed at some of you guys usage rates. It's amazingly good! Just goes to show how much of a noob I am.

When I first started out I was using gas. 3 ring burner took about 1.5 hrs to get to temp and was only stripping at about 3L/hr. after two runs I'd be outta gas! I was insulated to!

Me and gas don't mix we'll. so I went electric. I'm tryin to work it out and I think for 4 x stripping runs and a 4/5 hour spirit run, it's about $8 worth of electricity. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

look this discussion aint fair,

There's lots of reason why we get different results. So let's cover a few

Design...shit that's week long debate...but I can say the new glasser with solid plates vs. plate tree on it's own is worth perhaps .5 run per 9kg bottle c/f my plate tree bubbler.
Posted a keg cosy reminder this evening +1 runs
leaving passive heating on for wash so it starts at 28c vs. dead cold
if you take feints +/- 1 run
still equalising process...unsure cos it depends on how and what

I'm a certified tight arse so you'd expect me to be frugal with costs but ...generous by nature...I'm just about to do run 6 on same 9kg bottle for a near on 4" column

I was going to post a "winter wrap up" and will do soon to assist new folk mainly with costs and heating etc.

Thats a great starter point for me, and a bit of ballpark, usage knowledge.
I was intending on making a venturi burner (reil type) to fire the boiler which will sit on a pedestal inside an insulated "furnace".

My Laundry copper boiler has the same shape as my crucibles in the foundry, so I was going to make a lower temp version of my my main furnace and sit the boiler in it.

Castable refractory hotface inside, around 10mm thick, wrapped in 50mm Kaowool insulation and a thin veneer exterior face to support the insulation blanket.

I figure if I can melt a pot of Aluminium from cold in 15 minutes, then I should be able to get a boiler up to temp quite quickly. and once up to temp, it should stay quite steady with very little heat input.
