Will this be good enough to heat a 50l keg?

I have one of the smaller burners like the one at the top but I don't think it will be good enough.

Cheers

I found the difference between a 2 ring and 3 ring for a 50lt SS keg and 47lt wash fill was about 35 - 45 mins.

Not much... but bloody painful while your waiting to get on with it.

Buy the best you can afford... it pays in the long run :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I use a double ring burner on my 50 lt boiler, it takes about half hour to heat up, I also use a heat ring which helps heaps. I will try to post a pic, I dunno how to post pics yet

My iPhone wont let me post pics, but to answer your question, a double ring will work just fine and allow for minor heat increments as compared to a single burner, never tried a triple burner myself but I have seen them in action and they don't add much benefit really

When using a 50l keg,I only use a single burner :D :D As a matter of fact, when I use the big boiler for Cindy,I only use a single burner too
But when the new baby turns up I'm going electric :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:

2 ring Bunnings burner takes about 50 min to heat up my 50L keg with about 30L wash... I am in Tassie though, and its bloody cold down here

Ok, cool. So does the small one at the top count as a single burner, do you think it might work without a heat ring?

Hard to say, but at a guess  the bottom of the keg will interfere with the flame :handgestures-thumbupleft: hence why I use the heat ring. You might notice the holes I drilled into the ring, the holes allow for better air flow and it allows the flame to breathe, also it will stabilise the keg when you're doing a run. The grating only keeps things off the ground, I have used the still outside without the grating and it made no difference to flame/heat performance :-B . Not in my experience anyways.. :-D

I use the 3 ring but i bought an hi pressure regualtor from a camping store. Just said I needed a little more umph to bring water to the boil for my prawns he hehe :D :D :D . Cost $50 but cut boil time to about 15mins for 30lt. Super fast!!!! :happy-partydance: easy to adjust as it has a adjustable knob on the regulator

i made a bd747 but it always turned my keg black dunno why i used the 1.5mm drill bit but the oxygen mix wasnt working for me. Anyway disclaimer dont try this at home its outside manufacturer specs i use a two ring burner with a medium pressure reg using a high pressure line and needle valve. heats up 40 l in 20 minutes obviously outside what the two ring burner is rated at pressure wise and i dont crank the reg full boar becauss it would be entirely my fault if i blew myself up

I started just using that top one and it was a god Damn nightmare. Once I put it on a high pressure regulator it was ok. The BD747 burner works really well but needs a HP regulator . Most ppl use the one in your second picture :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Make sure you grab a high pressure reg not a standard BBQ one.
The hp regs that I use are about $75 at m10mega and are great but theres a guy on trademe selling ones for about the same price but they look far better quality.
I am going to get a new one off him soon but I can't find the auction right now.

Thanks for that kk,

I. Got myself a triple. Burner and the heat up time was 45mins  It's ok for the moment as I'm not really in such a rush and the take off speed is determined by the valve I currently use. I have sorted a new needle valve for swapsies just need to wait till the guy gets his AIG.

Would you use this indoors? I'm pretty keen on stating indoors as its pretty cold at the moment especially at the times I can manage distillation!

Cheers

Just buy one of these and a high pressure reg and be done with it.

I had 46L of low wines up to boil yesterday in 20 minutes :music-deathmetal:

two,

if it's like real cold you can seriously cut down heating time by using a heater shroud I've found. There a post around on simple cheap 44 gal drum insulated for this.

cheers

Yeah you can run inside, just make sure you have decent ventilation, and keep a very close eye on things. You don't want ethanol vapors when your using an open flame.

Indoors? Maybe in a garage with the roller door raised a bit with a couple of fire extinguishers to hand.
And mayberaised on firebricks off the concrete floor a bit.
Definataly build a basic heat shroud from a 44gallon drum or some fire bricks :handgestures-thumbupleft:
I have only run my gas rig outside so can't really say otherwise.
