Has anyone made a boiler out of a stainless steel 44 Gallon Drum? Reckon it would hold the weight of a Mac 6" Still?

reckon you'll end up with a concave top and wrinkled sides, the 6" rig with 6 plates and packed section is going to be in excess of 40kg ;-)

What if I built a frame around the drum and a bracket to take some of the weight of the still :-) Would the heat distort the drum at all?

I am actually looking at these

I have a solution for the weight of the still, but my biggest concern is will they buckle with heat?

If it were me, starting up a distillery....I would want a nice new, good quality boiler rather than my customers seeing me use an old 44 to brew with.
It's all about appearance. ;-)

could always build a nice housing for it. decent amount of insulation and make it wood panelled. im sure catcher has a good plan for it :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hahaha pretty much hit the nail on the head. Still will be built into and plumbed into work bench area, getting it all measured up at the moment :-)

In the main foyer, have a nice shiny boiler.

In the back room where the REAL work is done, have 8 of these puppies working overtime.
