Chips ...one thing is still worrying me ....if you fill it full of packing to use it as a reflux still ,you won't get nearly the purity you could because...there is no form of reflux in it .It will still be a pot still with the only reflux being due to passive cooling of the column.

If you want to make neutrals, you need either a small coil just below the takeoff to the product condenser .....

or.... a large coil in a shell above the takeoff ....this will also require a gate valve in series with the takeoff to the product condenser to adjust reflux ratio

At this stage,I really only want scotch and rum. So neutrals are not on the horizon.

How much wash to put in the 50l keg for a stripping run?

No worries, You'll be good to go without any packing .:handgestures-thumbupleft:

For Rum 25-30 liters max....or this happens..I thought it was a curse from the Gods for using a plastic funnel again

Thanks Yummyrum, I even struck that with the air still. It's heating up now, hopefully soon the alcometer will be floating in the parrot!

I pulled about 6l of spirit off the stripping run on 40l. Ran it down to about 25% on the parrot. Most impressed with the Taste of the spirit, I still have 10 L of wash to run (do that in the morning) the gas makes the speed very easy to control.

I am doing a spirit run today with about 7l going back into the boiler.
I was just tasting the stuff coming out of the parrot in the stripping run (5ml) to see what sort of flavour it had behind it. But you are right, I can't wait to taste the hearts.

In the city at the moment and wanted to get some scotch and beer. I bought a bottle of White Heather, it used to be one of my fav bottom shelf scotches. It doesn't even come close to my home brand nutri grain whiskey. Not even a little. So happy I have been able to craft something so nice, I don't think I will buy another bottle of commercial stuff again unless O/S. Thanks for your help folks.

I have not had anything but my Nutri grain whiskey for a while, this is the first commercial scotch I have had in months.
