Well it's been a little time coming.

Smbjk was kind enough to sell me his spare keg and today my build begins.

Now i know this will seem a massive overkill but purchased one these elements

It's a whopper i know but my brother is a clever sparky and we will rig this thing up through a control box Was thinking of using a PID but for now will keep it simple.

I may never need to run it at full power but good to have there

5500W? you have three phase to plug that into or a 30amp circuit dedicated just for that 8-}

I find with these discs even though they are fine they are still a little abrasive. The more you use it though the more it starts to polish the stainless.

Getting the boiler up to temp you will use it. I certainly would if I had it. I am not sure my wiring can go higher than a 15 amp wall plate, and I only have a single phase which limits what my options are.

Usual caveats apply here but did a test run with my boiler plugged into the standard wall plate.

With the voltage regulator I first ran it at about 50%. After an hour and a half 25 litres was only getting very hot. Cranked it to about 70% and stated to boil vigorously in a few minutes. Fuse did not trip and no wiring got hot.

I need to put an ammeter and voltage meter in my box so i can do my calculations.

Yes this is a big no no but I have two power circuits in the fuse box (like most homes) on 16A circuits. Theoretically i can run at 16A all day and not pop the fuse (providing nothing else is running off the same circuit at the same time)

When you say you have 16A circuits....are you saying your circuit breakers in your fuse box are 16A?

That's very different to assuming you can run 15A GPOs.

You need to refer these types of questions to a qualified electrician.

If you refer to AS/NZS3018 you'll see that typical lighting uses 1-1.5mm wiring and is protected via a 10A/16A circuit breaker, while typical power to your GPOs is 2.5mm and is protected by a 16A circuit breaker.

A 15A rated GPO will be protected by a 20A circuit breaker.

I'm no sparky but I know where my expertise ends and where I need to call in the experts.
When it comes to electricity do not assume anything and get in the experts.

4mm cable for best for 15amp circuits. Jusy finished running my new circuit in 6mm because I had it already. Its good for 32A

There is a serious chance of overloading that circuit if your using a standard 10A rated outlet :scared-eek:

Mac is correct, run length determines cable size but I think all us non-electricians have said enough.
Many of us here have many decades in engineering, chemical, process, building and other professions, trades and hobbies and one thing I think we can all agree on is when it comes to electricity you should be dealing with a qualified electrician.

Forget about the fact you may electrocute yourself, there's the very real risk that if you don't know what you are doing you could hurt somebody else, you could cause a fire...bringing unwanted attention to your illegal hobby and nullifying your home and contents insurance in the process!

I really need my volt and ammeter so i can calculate how far to safely push this thing

A dedicated 32A circuit is the key here but i live in a rental and for now will never run my boiler at 100% load

Initially I was planning on building an electric brewery as seen here

After spending months obsessing on that site I found this one

Then spent all my waking hours thinking about building a still

Now that's a sweet looking control panel :-B
