What type/size of drain do you guys use on yiur kegs?

assume your talking about boiler keg?

next time I will put the elements 180 from the drain. Can't tip it far enough ATM.

3/4 inch bend welded in centre of base, pipe to extend out to edge of keg then another bend and the tap, all in stainless until the tap then a brass hose fitting to attach garden hose to drain into sewer or onto garden.

Assuming you are after design ideas, if I had my time again I would have mounted the elements on the side of the keg relative to the fill port so that I am not worried about spills going onto the elements and they wouldn't get in the way when I am filling the boiler.

Some good ideas folks. I think I will place the drain on the opposite sidenof the elements.


Can I get by without a drain for a while or would it be recommended to install one before I start my first run?

If you are happy to lift 40+ litres of spent wash and 10? kg of stainless... go for it. :D
I tend to leave mine till the next day and siphon it off so I don't have to lift it.

Don't let a drain stop you distilling.
Just find a way around the issue until you are ready to make your ultimate boiler. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Since I already have a 32mm hole in the side of my boiler thanks to the now redundant KK element I'm using this port for the drain.
The drain components have been ordered today and are as follows: (I already have a suitable valve)

2x G25 BSP Locknut 316
1x Rp25 CL150 BSP STANDARD SOCKET 316
1x Rc25 CL150 BSP 90D FEMALE ELBOW CF8M
1x G25X150L SCH40S BSP PLAIN NIPPLE 316

I'll post pictures as soon as they are here and installed.

The elbow listed below is incorrect, it's actually a long radius bend (male/male) and I can't find a picture for it.

See that all-thread BSP fitting in the last image? That's 32mm OD ;-)

Not sure what you mean. The last fitting is 32mm OD? But what about your 25mm lock nut.

1" BSP (25mm) thread has an OD (outside diameter) of 32mm.... yeh I know, but it's true 8-}

i don't have a drain on mine. i just wait till it cools down and pour it out of the top. i only still once a month or so though

Maybe I fucked up on my parts order...will let you know when it all comes in so long as you aren't in a rush.
Besides, my parts list is only relevant if you are trying to fill a 32mm hole in the side of your keg.

Yes mate that is looking from the bottom it drains fast and completely clean.
