Upgrade Element.

Postby Dezza » Sun Jun 01, 2014 8:07 pm

Ok i can see the need to upgrade my element.
I haven't even brewed my first lot of alcohol as yet.
i was giving the wrong advise and brought one from the local Brew shop which is from the Keg King.
so to fix my promblem in the future i will buy one from 5star it seems.
Only thing is am not sure what to buy.
Have seen a lot of kegs with two and also element guards.
different wattage and now confused.
Please advise for an all round element possibly guard if needed to suit 2" reflux with keg.
Also have pot still to fit keg as well.
do i need something to control the temp of the element ?

why do you want to upgrade, did your die, need more power, safety issue?

2400 watt can run normal power. will do the pot and reflux. another element will reduce heat up time and probably can be used for stripping runs.
3600 watt need to 15a circuit.
as far as i know element guards are needed so the wiring doesn't remain exposed.

element controller will be useful for potstill :handgestures-thumbupleft: but dont NEED one

Doesn't get more simple then that

A 2400 W element will be more than enough for a 2" reflux and you will need to get a controller for it.
A 2400 w element will run off a standard 240v 10 Amp outlet.

If you get the 3600 watt ,you will have to upgrade to a 15 amp circuit
If you get 2 x2400w you will either have to ensure you have two separate 10 amp circuits or get another one installed .

As I said 1x 2400 watt is more than enough for a 2" reflux though

equipment: Did use Still Spirits Reflux
Now use 50l Keg with Pot head for Rum and Neutral stripping runs on gas .
LM/VM head with 1m packed 2" on Still Spirits boiler for Neutrals.
