So I went to my favourite scrap yard and bought an 18gallon keg and a piece of stainless pipe.

Got a specially modified 6" ferrule from Mac, as well as all the other bits I needed.Thanks mate. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
It is longer than most. so there is plenty of room for the clamp.

Got a welder to weld me some bits and pieces on.

Here is the result.


Then took to it with a 40 grit flap disc.


Cleaned out the interior and cut two 32mm holes in it for elements.
Decided to cut them below the centre of the keg because inside on one side is a stainless tube that was used for the spear.
By cutting below this the elements are able to butt up against the keg wall better.

Will get a sparkie to wire up the elements as soon as he is able.

The inside needed a bit of a touch up with a flap disc as well.
Could get a grinder inside because of the 6" ferrule.
Also removed most of the stainless pipe that was in there as well... what a job that was, working blind inside a keg. ~x(

Just a question for Mac or anyone using weldless element.

I've cut two 32mm holes for the elements.
Do they have to remain in the keg before wiring?
I can't see anyway of removing the 2nd threaded nut on the element.

Also does it make any difference if the silicone/whatever washer is on the inside or outside of the keg? :think:

Hey DBV,

The element needs to be inside the keg before wiring it up. Put it in, pull the cables through your hole and then wire it up.

The silicon ring has to be inside the keg. Just don't do it up TOO tight or you'll deform it and it will still leak.

Yeah I know.
Will suffer it for a couple more weeks.
Fitted the column on it last night and it does make it look small..... but bigger than a 50lt keg :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hi Gents

Finally got it all together and the boiler is on it's first heat up... water only... just a test run.





75ltrs up to temp in about 40 mins... happy with that. :D :D :D

I've also worked out another use for the boiler.

As I do 300ltr ferments and need to melt the sugar.... :D :D :D

Gotta love that.

No more sitting over a 6 ltr pot and gas burner doing repeated heat ups. which takes for eeeeeeeeverrrrrrrrrrr.

Hi, I am thinking or replicating this set up. Is the pipe used for legs 2" and if so would 2 metres of this do me?

2 inch would do fine, but a slightly thicker wall than an exhaust pipe may work better.

Mine burnt through the pipe in a couple of places.

Also welding a nut to the plate under each leg will make levelling easier.
