My first 2 boilers for my 2" pot were made from the same welded rolled SS pipe and I found on both of them a small pin hole developed after a few runs so it may pay to dye check the seam welds to make sure no cracks or pin holes are in.

Better to be safe than sorry mate

Cheers Bryan

Will be keeping an eye on it, we did some tests filled and presurised to 15psi, so far no leaks. But yeah will be watching for sure.

Wondering are you going to have an overflow back to boiler?nwhat sort of still are you going to put on top a pot or bubbler? What size pipe are you going to use between boiler and thumper? Sorry for the 20 questions something about pot still and thumper i find very interesting.. :D

Edit my bad i see its going inline :handgestures-thumbupleft:

There'll be a piece of 6" between the boiler and thumper. For now it'll just be for pot stilling but it's modular so can add bubble plate sections and an RC as I get them made then the pot will be able to just connect to the top above the sections, at least thats the long term plan for now anyways.

So got back to this one, got the elements wired up...

G'day Magnus,
Nice work, I'm certainly impressed (not that is of any consequence), but I do have a question!
Apart from the obvious (ease of construction), is there a reason to not have gone conical on the top surface? Is it very much more difficult to do? Sorry, but I can't weld for nuts...

It almost looks like one of the FSD boilers, just not as shiny! :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Rolling 3mm stainless into a cone takes some pretty industrial equipment, and there's no real functional advantage to doing so for a boiler...

Pressing the top plate into a cone shape wouldn't have been all that difficult really, keeping it all nice and square without some kind of jig setup on the other hand would have been very difficult. And yeah it was just easier to do a flat top.

It usually has something to do with cost or time (aka jib)...

Thanks Sam, very slow on low power with this light guage stuff and lots of clean up but it came out pretty good.

I've run the boiler long enough to test the elements and controller, but thats about it for now.
