Holy crap Magnus, it took me three reads of your pics to realise how you made the plates 8-}
Machining and drilling a solid piece then cutting slides off is awesome, definitely will get all the holes lined up nicely :handgestures-thumbupleft:
The middle plates have stumped me though.. Are the smaller in diameter than the inside of the pipe?

Thx for pointing that out... saw it but didn't recognize what you have deduced! There's clearly an art to machining and fabricating that isn't obvious to the lay-man!!

Thanks everybody.

Ended up cutting a slice off the side of each baffle to direct water flow to the opposite side so as the water goes through the PC it moves from side to side.

Here it is testing for leaks

And after the flanges welded on and a clean up.

Leak test day today on the 4"pot. Not too bad, a few holes to patch up but better than I was expecting really.

That's looking awesome bud. You had the same idea as me with the thumper in pot still mode. Reason I went with my biggun as well. Has the ability to run like a traditional thumper as well.

That's it Warra, wanted to run as traditional in pot mode. The thumper has an extra 2" connection on top as well so I can connect a valve and small tank to hold a few liters of honey or other liquid flavor and shoot into the thumper during a run.

Great work mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Wicked setup, great idea with the placement of the tap and 2inch connection :D

My thoughts exactly. But I was going to put it at the top of my plates when I got one to allow it to 'Dribble' down the column slowly and accumulate in the thumper gradually. Maximum bang for buck (I hope).

I wont be running plates over this thumper, it's just to big for that I'd need a ladder to reach the top lol. I will however be making 6" bubble sections to fit the boiler, but thats in the future.
If you run flavoring through your plates you'll have to do a full strip down and cleanout after every run to clean out the gunk wont you?

Depends I guess. Running another batch straight after should be fine but if I'm not doing another batch for a week or more I clean and pack it anyway.

Thanks fellas, I can't wait to run this thing it has been over a year since I started on the boiler and still haven't cooked a drop in it yet. Once I get it going though should only have to turn it on a hand full of times a year hopefully.

Another high class idividual bit of gear Magnus, have ya got some copper mesh in there to remove sulphides and improve flavour ,as that's about the only down side to all stainless construction I have found,I have about 4-500gr copper mesh in my thumper and that seems ta do the job for me,or ya could put some in ya colomn.cheers hillzabilly :happy-partydance:

Thanks hillz, and yeah the section above the thumper will have copper mesh in it.

Its taken me a while to get back to my still build, l have a 50 litre s/s keg to work with. l have machined a flange 160 OD with a 100 bore out of 316 s/s and l intend on purge welding to the base of the keg. This will be my hand hole for cleaning and l have flange cap made up which accepts a 2400w hot water service element. l made beer years ago and had issues with not being able to clean properly into nooks and crannies so l hope to get away with not welding anything else to the keg. To make it easier to clean and fill l was thinking of clamping a band around the middle of the keg with pivot points either side so l can spin it over to open the bottom up by removing 4 wing nuts. l have a thermostat from a hot water service that reads 60 - 80C with OTC 88C, can l use this or do l need a different temp range or controller. Looking forward to getting the still going over the next couple of weeks.

That sounds like alot of work.
How do you plan on sealing this large flange?
Also 100mm bore is a bit small for man sized arms.
Why not just use a 6" ferrule?

I cant get my arm through a 4" ferrule either so cut it off and replaced with a 6".

You don't want to use a thermostat on your boiler at all, you need a constant temp so use a voltage controller.
