Yield expectations

Postby MattSmith » Sat Aug 19, 2023 6:44 pm

Some fruit washes are next on my list to do (apple, cherry, plum etc). I've got a lot aging currently and need to think about my future needs. What sort of yield should I expect from a batch? A small wash for me would be 60L and big would be 200L. Not sure I want to go big on something I've never done before but could be tempted if it makes a useful amount for ageing.

I always aim for the same SG 1.070ish and ferment it dry. By sticking to this, i can always safely estimate i will end up with roughly 10% of the wash volume with useable spirit (for oaking).

So 60L will give 6L, 200L will give 20L etc.
