Just wondering, does anyone find the original recipe far too sweet? I doubt I use half that amount of brown sugar when doing a 3ltr batch never mind a 1 ltr jar. I like using WG as a base for this - adds a grain hint that reminds me of apple crumble - I like it alot.

I halve the sugar in all the recipes for a start and usually keep going down from there.

Lemoncello, panty dropper, kahlua ect.

Thought it was time to give apple pie moon shine a whurrr.
went for

2litres fresh up green apple juice
1litre fresh up old fashioned Apple juice
6 cinnamon sticks (from the indian grocer- the only place to buy spices)
3 cloves
1 litre 93% malt whiskey (white)
1 litre 65% corn UJSM (oaked)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 red apple cored and sliced
1 granny smith apple cored and sliced

I didnt bother with the heating of the apple juice and cinnimon some recipes talk about just bunged it all in a 5litre demijohn- the excess liquid being added to a fejoa maceration that needeed toppping up... after 3 days the flavour is goooooood.
I calculated the ABV to be 33% so may top it up with spirits when i decant it to smaller bottles..

If youse reading this and youse aint done it yet- Have a hack at one of the apple pie moonshine recipes youse wont be dissapointed. :))

I use a lot less apple juice, 1 litre tops to 1 litre of 90%+ neutral and a lot more fresh apples.

Also add a quarter cup of sultanas or raisins. We like this at around 50-60% abv, ice cold from the freezer as a party starter shot.

This is a magic mix and yes I agree everyone should try this drink.

I've seen something similar to this in a TV episode of Moonshiners I think but not with sultanas.

I still have a few of the episodes, but could not grab them all :(

A slang term for sweet, pretty drinks that are usually consumed by girls.

I'm sure you can figure out the rest. :)) :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Quick question I'm getting married and I'd like to make a bunch of this for my wedding can it be made in a food safe bucket fermenter or should I chop the apple up small and use a five gallon glass Carboy?

I'd keep the spirits away from plastic until you're done aging the apple and cinnamon etc and you're ready to add apple juice. At that point it's heading down under 25% and it would be fine to serve from plastic - do you really want to serve from a bucket though;-)

But for the aging and steeping no way I'd do that in plastic.

No worries, just a tip that raisins add a wicked better flavour than sultanas. Only use cinnamon sticks and decent brown (Demerara) sugar. Also the better the apples the better the quality of the end product. Use a mix of Fuji and Granny Smith for best results.

put 3 jars down early yesterday... the spirit has already stripped out some of the colour in the skins... rather a nice effect i thought! :handgestures-thumbupleft:
