What to do with Neutral

Postby CaptainRedBeard » Mon Sep 29, 2014 9:36 am

So I've got 1L of Limoncello bottled, 2x 500mL Mason Jars with 95% Panty Droppers sitting in the Window... and I'm left with 1 Mason jar @ 95% which I'm not too sure what to do with. I've given up on essences completely, not a fan of them at all. Any ideas guys?
Fruit wise, I've got 2 large naval oranges, and 2 large mandarins in the fridge, but they've been there a week or 2, so I'm not real keen on using them, rather head down the fruit shop and pick something fresh up.
What should I make people?

I find banana lollies or musk sticks dissolved in neutral goes down well with most people who drink it
Just mix it with a little lemonade or soda water and you've got a pretty decent drink if you're into the sweet stuff

Ever tried it with banana fruit opposed to the lollies?
I've got a dehydrater I use for jerky, was thinking of rolling bananas in sugar, dehydrating, then soak. Rolling them in sugar so later when I dilute down to drinking % I shouldn't need to use any sugar.
I don't really want to use lollies, I don't know why I don't want to use them, just not keen I guess.

I think I'm gonna just have to go to the fruit shop and see what they have fresh, limes would be convenient, a bit of sugar, lime and lemon juice, I'm half way to making the missus happy with a long island iced tea! :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I don't think I've ever tried Ouzo, I'll have to read up on it. Cheers for the ideas

I bought all the stuff for Ouzo today, the fruit shop didn't have anything fresh, or appealing to me.
I'll have to try Macs Coffee liquer next time round. The missus doesn't drink coffee, and I'm trying to make some drinks she'll like to keep her off my back about being in the garage every waking moment playing with my big shiny metal toys :laughing-rolling:

So I made Ouzo, not sure if it tastes like the real deal, but fark me, I don't think I'll be drinking much more of it. I don't think I overdid the recipe, but that aniseed was overpowering. If I ever make it again I'll only be using half the recipes star anise quantity.
On a positive note, it's the first real run through my pot, performed like she should. Happier days to come :D

Sorry mate, i gave you a bum steer there. I hope you know someone who likes ouzo. I also found the different flavors come through at different stages so you can sort of pick and choose what flavor goes in when you blend.

Btw hows your shed smell?, mine stank for a week :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

Nah it's all good duck, my old man's a bit of a licorice nut, so he'll get a kick out of it. It was good to finally run something through my pot, and was happy with the results. There was dramatic flavor changes through out the collection, but I didn't know what Ouzo tastes like, so I just mixed all of them together.
Unfortunately I don't have a detached shed, I've got my workshop/still set up in my double garage, which the door is opposite the main (my) bedroom...The smells pretty friggen strong.
Good thing the wife used to work at Darrell Lea before they went bust, so she's used to the smell of aniseed :D
Just gotta wait till next weekend before I have anymore neutral to play with, gonna have some fun with it :D :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I'm with Dogbreath, make a batch of Doc's bitters, it takes 3 months or so to soak but it is amazing. I use is in mixed drinks or just with Soda. I ordered all my botanicals from Austral herbs, they arrive quite quickly, get big packets as they are very economical. I have now got 5 liters aging and it is going to be Xmas pressies for friends.

That sounds awesome :happy-partydance:
Lemon, lime & bitters on a stinking hot day, definitely gonna make up some of that!
Doc seems to be a busy bloke, wonder if he's ever tried replicating Alizè Bleu, I know the misses would enjoy that.

Try the expresso laced vodka(ELV)
My recipe for a 700ml bottle
300ml of 95 abv nuteral
250ml expresso shots
200g of sugar
5ml vanilla extract
Top up with water
Tastes great straight away but get better with a bit of ageing :handgestures-thumbupleft:

The expresso shots, are they the capsules you buy for the swanky coffee machines?
