Here you go.

parts required for a DIY DC

3/4" x 1/2" reducer
3/4" cap
piece of 1/2" pipe to your desired length

So the reducer sits in the hole of the plate and gives a 20mm bath depth.

Works great and is a fairly easy, quick and cheap solution to a perforated plate :D

I thought people general used a 3/4 down commer. I am guessing 1/2' is enough for a 4" column?

I was the first guy to use 3/4" DC's then everyone followed, however I have found the opening for overflow is more important than the size of the tube below it ;-)

The old curse of the sheep. Sounds good mate.

It's not really a matter of sheep mate, back in the early bubbler days there were a few issues with OD's 1/2" DC's flooding the column due to liquid not being able to leave the tray quick enough. I actually had a still fire due to column flooding and spitting 92% alcohol through the PC resulting in a 3m tall flame.... the next day my still had larger DC's installed and they worked perfectly.

After a fair few builds and running various different styles of DC's I realised this style works as good as any by allowing distillate easy access away from the tray, and with the smaller 1/2" dropper tube & 3/4" cup it worked great at preventing blow by of vapour through the DC...

Cheers.

Also what is the distance between the outside of the plate and the perforations. Or the diameter of the perforated area if that is easier.

$10 per plate awesome. :handgestures-thumbupleft: love them. you are going to sell a lot of these mac.
that's a huge saving of time and coin on a bubbler build.

Totally agree, I'd spend $10 per plate on drill bits alone
