Paul,

I think trying to run the Carter head like that with a 4" bubbler is going to be problematic, IMHO you would be better off using the rig above with watered down neutral.

You need to start thinking about the amount of power the plate still needs, and how much power you'll need to to keep (set up like methusalah) the whole system balanced, with minimal passive reflux.... you're going to need so much power at the carter head end that you'll be overwhelming the plated column.... counter productive.

To run the Carter head like my set up or Doc's I'd suggest at least a 6" plate still with 6kw available, and getting the whole system up to temp before adding botanicals ;-)

Good point Mac, I'm getting a lot of passive reflux in the carter head as it is. Is there a way of creating a return line with my rig?

Yep, but you'll need to have a fitting of some kind added to your milk can (?) boiler so you can connect a drain line to it.

Just depends how you want to go about it really.
