Basic 4000w SCR Build

Hey everyone,
I just finished a build using the 4000W SCR off ebay, a voltmeter and ammeter off ebay and a few other knick-knacks.
Took me a while due to ordering from overseas and working lately but I thought I'd put up some pictures for you all to check out.
I'm using the keg king 2200W heating element in a 50L keg boiler.

Using a 10A plug, male IEC (for the keg king element) and an extra grounding strap to connect to the keg.
Image

Voltmeter and Ammeter are wired up on the output of the SCR so V*I will tell me the wattage being sent to the element
Image

Orange cable is the input which goes straight to the SCR, SCR is wired to the voltmeter in parallel and ammeter in series, output of the ammeter goes to the black cable which is the output to the boiler, all earths are wires into a star in the bottom left of the image. Brown wiring goes to the potentiometer which controls current and voltage being sent to the output.

Thanks for reading my first post!

Now that's a very clean build, nice job, I like the little ties on the wiring :D by any chance are you an aviation sparky by trade?

Are you aware of the previous failures and reliability of the Keg King elements?

Not to derail I think that you should be aware of them :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I guess the lacing gave it away?
Yeah I've read a bunch of different opinions on the keg king elements and for fifty bucks i'm willing to just see what happens, I'll megger it every now and then and check for insulation and conductor breakdown.

Yep,also for the fact the wires are secure and would handle being shook violently :))

Just wanted to make sure you are aware, they have a very bad reputation :-B

Already designing the next controller.
Will have a micro controller, over current, over/under voltage protection, 3x thermostats for wash temp, vapor temp and output temp, dry boil protection, two elements on 240v 10A relays, etc. Gonna be an expensive and fun exercise :)

nice workmanship.

how is the fan attached, is it on top of the SCR? sucking the warm air from the SCR through the fan and out?

Now that's just what I've been waiting to see. :text-thankyoublue:

I'd already purchased the meters off ebay and have been trying to find good info on a controller build that was applicable.

Any chance of a schematic for clarification?

Very tidy build. I will have to build a better controller one soonish.
If it turns out half as glam as this I'll be happy.
